Field trip friday FAQs
For more information, please contact our events team at tatspecialevents@jljackson.org.
What is the cost to attend Field Trip Friday?
Thanks to the generosity of the Junior League of Jackson membership, Handy Helpers, and our corporate sponsors, Field Trip Friday is offered at no cost to our invited second grade and special education students. Special education students from all grades are welcome to attend.
What will we do? See? Learn?
Students will explore equipment representing Forestry and Agriculture, Emergency, Government and Military, Utility, Manufacturing and Construction industries. They will be able to climb in and on the vehicles that make our world work while they also interact with the equipment operators. Students will also have an opportunity to explore S.T.R.E.A.M. related interactive booths.
What curriculum will we receive?
Prior to the event, you will receive activities, resources, and reading suggestions that align with national standards.
How long is the field trip?
We will be open for field trips between 8:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. We will work with you to plan your arrival and departure times based on your needs and the needs of other schools attending. Generally, you can expect to spend 2-4 hours on-site.
How many chaperones will we need?
One adult per 6 children is recommended. If you have concerns or a special needs student/class, please let us know. We regret that we are unable to accommodate excessive chaperones or siblings.
Will transportation be provided? What about parking?
No. Schools are responsible for transportation to and from the event. Parking will be available on-site at Trustmark Park. Volunteers will be available to assist with parking as you arrive.
What happens when we arrive?
You will be greeted at the bus by one of our Touch A Truck® volunteers who will brief you on what to expect for the day and assist you with entry procedures.
What else is needed for Field Trip Friday?
All attendees must have a signed liability waiver to gain entrance to Field Trip Friday. Parents/guardians must sign the form for each child planning to attend. Waivers must be signed and returned in advance of the event for all attendees.
What if it rains?
Field Trip Friday is a rain or shine event. In the event of inclement weather, or any other unforeseen circumstances, the Junior League of Jackson reserves the right to cancel the event.
What is the registration process?
Please complete the online registration at www.touchatruckjackson.com/fieldtripsregistration by November 29, 2019. While we will do our best to accommodate everyone, field trip slots will be filled on a first come, first served basis; therefore, you will be notified regarding acceptance to the event. In the new year, you will receive the mandatory waiver forms and copies of the Touch A Truck® Jackson curriculum to integrated into your lesson plans as you prepare for your trip. As the trip approaches, you will receive more communication to confirm and assist in planning your day.
